I always think Mother’s Day should be called Mothering Day because we all have female figures who have mothered us, teachers, aunties, grannies and women who have shown us love. Mother’s Day is an opportunity to do something special with these women and get together with your sisters. I took my Mother for a spot of Afternoon Tea yesterday at the Tearooms at Tankardstown House to mark the occasion as I will be away next weekend at the Emerald Ball in Dallas.
The Ball is part of the American Ireland fund raising drive which is supported in several cities in the USA. The wonderful Rachel Gaffney kindly invited me as guest author to the event and I will be also visiting the sites of Dallas and writing about it in The Herald newspaper.
I will be wearing a fabulous ball gown by the talented Jennifer Rothwell who is my favourite Irish designer. Her shop in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin is a haven of Irish made design and it is so important to support homegrown talent.
I recently returned from Thailand and a fantastic bucket list holiday with my friend Catherine and our daughters. Catherine and I went to Biarritz together to celebrate turning 40 back in 2006 and it was that weekend which inspired my first novel Two Days in Biarritz. Thailand is spa heaven with the most delicious healthy food – this is the first holiday that I have returned from where I’ve actually lost a few pounds! Who knows I may even get down to a new book based on our Thai adventure. I can’t recommend this beautiful country highly enough as a great spot for families and I will be writing about this on my travel blog soon.
I will be chatting with Elaine Crowley and the lovely Midday ladies next Tuesday on TV3 so tune in at 11,30 and see my other suggestions for Mother’s Day.
Best Wishes
